Who would have thought that Chandler, Arizona would become known as the Caanes of the southwest, but here we are. The second annual Chandler International Film Festival is scheduled for January 12th through January 15th, 2018 in downtown Chandler and it’s going to be a fascinating four days! I’m excited to be on the volunteer committee through the Chandler Human Relations Commission and can’t wait to see some amazing films.
Chandler’s very own Mitesh Patel is a director, producer and film writer who is committed to making Chandler a world class film festival location. This year he is bringing 150 movies from 30 countries and expects nearly 250 film makers to attend. Ten to fifteen features and many short films including documentaries and music videos will be scattered throughout the downtown area for the four days. Seven venues are being arranged to screen the films including Soho 63, The San Marcos Hotel, The Chandler Center for the Arts, and the downstage outdoor stage near the library.
And if you’re an aspiring film maker, you’re in luck! There will be workshops offered on film making and script writing so you can put your ideas on hyper-drive. You’ll have the opportunity to mix and mingle with those in the “biz”, and may find yourself rubbing elbows with some Hollywood heavy hitters. The second annual Chandler International Film Festival is already getting some pretty impressive attention. Several awards ceremonies and after parties are scheduled that, while not exactly rivaling the Oscars, will be just as much fun.
Films provide a wonderful lens through which to view various cultures and expressions of ideas we might not normally pay attention to. That’s why the Chandler Human Relations commission has volunteered it’s time to support and assist in the second annual Chandler International Film Festival. Given the large variety of countries submitting films for viewing, we anticipate great opportunities for stories representing diversity and promoting tolerance. In Mitash’s own words, The Chandler International Film Festival is “dedicated to the advancement of social and cultural awareness through education and delivered on the artistic platform of filmmaking”.
Mark your calendars for this amazing event. I’ll be sharing more information as it comes out and I expect to see you there!
