The Heart Of Chandler: Growing Opportunities For Dining & Entertainment

Downtown Chandler Becoming an Entertainment Mecca

Downtown Chandler: from outpost to entertainment mecca

Downtown Chandler: from outpost to entertainment mecca

This week I attended the Chandler Chamber of Commerce economic update and got a preview of the five year plan for the downtown Chandler Entertainment District. We are in for some great opportunities for eating, drinking, and making merry! The district  extends from Chandler Boulevard to the North to Pecos Road to the South; Delaware to the east and Essex to the west. Currently you can find destination venues such as Vintage 95 (a personal favorite), San Tan Brewery, El Zoloco, The Chop Shop (another fave!), the new Brickyard  Bar and Tapas, the Comedy Improv, an amazing city library, Vision Gallery, the beautiful San Marcos hotel and golf course, and Crust/The Ostrich, Chandler’s newest Italian restaurant and oldest, newest speakeasy!

In the next couple of years, we’ll see the addition of La Bocca Pizzeria (if you’ve ever been to the one on Mill Avenue in Tempe, you know it’s a GREAT addition), Modern Margarita, 55 Chicago, which is currently under construction just north of The Perch and Wall Street Shops, Sammys Ice Cream, Drafthouse Cinema, and a number of other gustatory delights. Businesses are flocking to the downtown corridor as well. The Commit Agency and Sandoval Design have already “committed” to the area, and an expected 300,000 square feet of new commercial office space,  and 600 – 800 jobs are being brought to Chandler.

Entertainment and retail don’t happen without the population to enjoy it. If you’ve seen the new Alta Steelyard Lofts, you know something special is happening in downtown Chandler. Several new multi-family projects are approved with an estimated 1000 residential units being added to the downtown area over the next five years. While some of our new residents will live and work near the downtown corridor, many will be employed in the Price corridor where hi-tech companies are opening up shop and providing well paying jobs. The future is bright in Chandler and I feel so fortunate to be a part of it. Now if only we could get a grocery store in downtown. I’m hopeful. Where residents settle, grocery stores follow.
